Tap into a 4 inch vertical cast iron sewer
I need to tap into a vertical cast iron sewer to run a new wash machine drain. The old one is super slow and just won't clean out. I would rather not cut into the concrete basement
    Floor.

I need to tap into a vertical cast iron sewer
Not something you want to do if you can avoid it.

The old one is super slow
Have you run a snake through it?
Does present washer stand pipe tie into stack above or below the floor?

It's MUCH simpler to unclog your drain than tap into it. What have you tried so far? How far did you snake? Where is your cleanout? Any other slow drains?

I agree with advices above. Avoid cutting Cast Iron.

But, with some effort, proper tools, skill and knowledge - it can be done. Assess your situation carefully. If you cannot clean your drain and / or it continues backing up even after cleaning - come back and we will guide you through cutting 4" Cast Iron stock and installing washing machine inlet.

I recently purchased a home built (I'm guessing) in the early 1900's. I noticed a leak in my basement coming from the old 4 inch cast iron soil stack running from my second floor bathroom to the basement. There is water dripping down the pipe to the basement. Three plumbers have come out to...

Vertical cast iron joint leak [ 5 Answers ]

I have a vertical cast iron toilet drain pipe and the joint appears to have a slow leak. I say this because there is water accumulation at the bottom of the joint as opposed to water coming from the top... so I don't think it has anything to do with the toilet seal. I saw some mention of...

Tap into Cast Iron Vertical Stack [ 11 Answers ]

I am considering taping into one of my cast iron stacks to add a drain. The cast iron is in very nice condition and has no problem. It runs into concrete on the bottom, the other side of the pipe has extensive plumbing connections attached to it, then it vents. Would the best thing to do be to...

Cast iron vertical from cast iron horizontal can be pvc? [ 2 Answers ]

A leak developed in the main cast iron vertical stack of pipes leading to the horizontal main drain. Unfortunately, for me, the leak was so close to the ground that I had to break the concrete slab of the house. At that point, it just made sense to dig an extra 4 inches or so and remove the bad...

Washer Drain into Cast Iron Vertical [ 1 Answers ]

Hello: My daughter is purchasing a house in which the washing machine drain is tapped directly into a 4" clean out plug in the vertical cast iron main line. I realize this is not to code, and gas could back up into the washing machine. However the house inspector said that since the water was...
