    Can I fire my realtor?
We are selling our home in New York due to job relocation and, unfortunately, are feeling like our agent is not working for us. We had a quick sale that fell through (this information that was listed on an MLS website) and we're feeling ignored. In addition, what was supposed to be our second open house was cancelled and we have the feeling that we were being lied to about why. There are also issues with communication (waiting two or more days to return phone calls) and honoring our requirements about the sale (suggesting we list our home for well below what we indicated we were comfortable with). We're not unreasonable people, we just want to be able to walk away from this sale with enough for another downpayment. We have a contract with the agent through the middle of June and we feel like we might be more successful with another realtor or company. We realize the market is soft right now, but do we have the right to cancel the contract if our home sale isn't being handled to our satisfaction?

Your contract is valid so you can't just walk away from it. You can however call the owner or manager of the real estate office and tell them that you are not being properly serviced. (Hope she isn't the owner.) She can only benefit if your property sells and her thoughts about the price may hold water. Did you have an appraisal done? How close is the appraisal to the asking price? Back to you.

I agree with ballengerb1, talk to the realtor. The agent bases her listing price on comparable properties in your area. Perhaps they are lower than you want.

We tried to sell a house in a soft market years ago and decided to rent it rather than take a loss. We rented it for 4 years and made a tidy profit doing so.

Although the agent doesn't seem to be wowing you, they haven't done anything to breach the contract.

    Good Luck!
