Dear people ,
Please, help me to answer the question . I have HRV fan system installed in my new house .It designed for bringing the fresh air from outside but also draws moist air from 4 points at the same time : from 2 upper bathrooms , 1 powder room and a basement bathroom .
Can I ask you , gentlemen , whether it's a code violation in Canada not to install the exhaust fans at all in every bathroom and a toilet but just using an HRV fan which is actually not drawing the moisture air but just helping a very little to suck out the moist air coursing all moisture to come up to the attic and freeze there in winter , then melting , as well as creating a truss up lift (cracks in upper bathrooms ).

HRV's are big in Canada and rarely encountered in the US. They are basically heat exchangers. They are approved and separate vent fans are not required.

In Canada, where HRV systems are far more common than they are in the U.S. the building code differs. In Quebec, for example, the above-code energy efficiency program NovoClimat (a program that resembles the Energy Star Homes program) requires that all homes include an HRV. When I discussed the NovoClimat program with Jean Pothier, he told me, “If you follow NovoClimat, no bath fans are allowed in these homes. You need an HRV to each bathroom.
