State wages not the same as federal wages
I have one w2 with two different totals for my state wages. It has wages of $84,000 in box 1, but in box 16 it has $2946 and box 17 has $84 and box 16 it has "Total State and box 17 has $2086.. state wages for LA.
Can some please tell me how I should report my state wages?

Apparently you worked in more than one state. LA is Louisiana.

I would venture to guess the other state is Texas, which has no state income tax.

If you live in Texas, but worked some time in Louisiana, you must pay Louisiana state income tax on the wages earned while located in Louisiana.

This may appear a bit complex to you, but any competent tax professional will now what to do, so I recommend you visit one as soon as possible.
