    Dishwasher will not drain
I've had my dishwasher for over 7 years, and it will not drain anymore. I disconnected it from the drain, and put water back through it. The water moved through the dishwasher fine and drained. I then snaked the drain, and found no clogs. I re-connected everything and put water back in the dishwasher, but it won't drain.

Any ideas on what the problem could be or what else I could try?

    Thanks,
    Kevin.

Unfortunately, that does not help me. I've never had to do anything to get it to drain. It just starting doing this last week. Also, I was manually feeding water into it. The dishwasher wasn't even turned on.

    Thanks.

Your second post confused me because now you mentioned you manually feed the water and it wasn't turned on. Is it just a draining problem or what else is happening? When you disconnect the washer and it worked fine where you leting it gravity drain to a low drain or was it power draining with a great deal of force? The drain should have as much force as a wide open garden hose.

When I disconnected the drain from the dishwasher, the water that was in the washer came out. I then put water inside the dishwasher, and it drained out of the washer into a pan. I hooked it back up to the drain, put water in the dishwasher manually and it did not drain. I don't know if it'a a problem with how my drain is coming out of the dishwaser or not. I haven't done anything different with the drain in years. Don't know why it's suddenly not working.

Sounds like a pump problem to me. I'm moving this over to the appliance page where it will be answered by the experts over there. Regards, Tom

Here is what might be happening if your dish washer does everything but drain. The drain is not done by gravity like a sink, it is a power drain with a pump. There is a solenoid on the drain that kicks in the valve on the pump. If the solenoid stick or is dead the valve won't open. This is actually the same pump that pumps water drying the was cycle. When it is time to drain the solenoid valve diverts the water to the drain. The solenoid is frequently brass or solver and looks like a small can about 1 " tall.
