    Clothing donations
My wife has, literally about 500 or so pieces of very good clothes, hard and time consuming to sell. If the retail for the used cloths is about 3,000.00, how can I get that deduction on my taxes? There is also, maybe 1 or 2 thousand dollars of other stuff.

Thanks for your help and time.

Claiming such a large amount for clothing donations is risky, UNLESS you can find a charity that is willing to put a dollar value on each piece of clothing or groups of clothing.

The church option is your best bet.

She isn't going to get retail for used clothing. Churches where I live won't give a tax receipt for for rummage sales. And non-profit shops attached to churches or hospitals will only give a receipt equal to what they think they will sell for, and can be very choosy about what they will take at each season.
