    Hi Galen

Shut off the water and then disassemble the valve as seen in this specification sheet:

    http://www.americanstandard-us.com/a...ts_fr_5964.pdf

After removing the parts, clear the water lines by pulsing the water supply on and off a couple times. Check all parts for mineral deposits/sediment and clean. Reassemble all parts and turn the water back on to see if you have improved things.

If there is no improvement replace the cartridge and/or the balancing spool and that should resolve your problem.

    Galen,

We have installed a brand new Covina Pressure Balancing Bath and Shower Sets 9090.501 & 9090.502 Series and we are experiencing the same problem with water outlet. Hot is OK but the cold trinkles. Did you find the problem and how to fix it?

    Thank you,
    Joe

How do you "clear the water lines by pulsing the water supply on and off a couple times" when you have these parts removed? Won't water go everywhere? I just spent a month without a shower so I don't really want to ruin everything I just did with a flood. Help.

    Hi Joni

Since this is in a tub and/or shower area there should be little concern of water damage as all should be tight behind the curtain, right? If you are concerned, it should be at the valve area itself... here, you could wrap a towel into and around the hole that is around the tub/shower valve... guarantees no drips go behind the wall as flow slows. When water is being pulsed, it will be too strong to dribble out, so should not be a concern here.

    Good luck!
