Deep well jet pump won't prime
Just had a new jet pump installed recently. My water stopped working so I tried priming the pump, but it just kept taking in water. Had the foot valve replaced and when I went to prime the pump, it held water but won't build any pressure. Do I just keep trying to prime it? I don't see any leaks (it has two lines). When I turn pump on, I don't hear it making the sound I know it should make when the pump is taking a prime and drawing water out of the well. I'm at a loss here... I live way out in the country and don't have the money to have a professional to come. Someone please help... Any suggestion would be great, I'm a single mom with two kids and have to do most of the repairs here at my home that used to be my grandparents' house.

How many pipes go into the well, one or two?

Any idea how far down it is to water?

You say the pump was installed? Any chance of getting the installer to take a look at it?

Thank you for your response, two pipes go in the well, and I believe the water is around 20 feet down or so. A friend of mine installed it, he's not sure what the problem is.

If you fill the prime port up with water, does the level hold, or does it tend to drop if left there for several minutes?

This one is tough. Pump is new and FV is new, so I wouldn't think there would be a problem with a clogged impeller, FV, or ejector. You've put on a new FV and pump recently, so a leak in the suction line is possible.

    Who installed the footvalve?

Changed out the lines, still not working... what about pressure tank?

Changed out both lines, still not working... what about pressure / expansion tank?

Keep dumping water in to prime the pump, don't know where the water is going, pump won't prime... I have no idea what's wrong :(

    It is not the tank.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are pouring water into the prime port, but it just basically goes through. In other words, it never fills up. Correct? If that's the case, then it's a bad foot valve. I realize your FV is new, but it has to be leaking. The easiest thing to do is to place a checkvalve on the suction line at the wellhead.

Now it could also be leaking wellpipe, but you have replaced all of that, so that only leaves the fv.
