I need to install a 6' french door in my basement outside wall for a walkout exit. Basement wall is 8" block. Wall is not weight bearing therefore the joist run parallel to the wall. How do I support the outside wall above the block to remove the bock and insert the header under the sill plate? I'm planning on taking out the top block on both sides to make a ledge to sit the header on. I need a little help.

Screw 2X12 plates across the floor joists, then build a crib wall from 2X4's, fit it under the 2X12 plates making sure the crib wall is well supported on hard soil or flat block and tight against the plates. Do not set the header directly on the block, install 2X PW plate under it. I'd use a triple 2X6 since you won't have clearance for 2X8 unless you use 1X PT.

I'm not sure I follow you. How to get support from the joist since the are running the same direction as the wall. Do you have a link I can look at?

The cross pieces tie the joists and they bear on the temporary wall. This is a picture of a long wall and you only need about 8 ft..

First of all, and important to know is that ALL exterior basement walls are load bearing, regardless of the directon of the joists. Your brick wall is supporting the rim joist, which is supporting the wall above it You can cut the wall back at each side of the opening and install a lolly column to support the header. And you could use steel and reduce the thickness of the header.
