How do I walk my blue heeler from barking at people walking by
My 14 month old blue heeler barks at people walking on the other side of road. Even bikers, joggers etc. Also people with other dogs. It is not aggressive, just pulls on leash to meet the person. Once my dog meets the person or dog, than he is fine. But not every person wants to meet my dog. I have used the device that only the dogs hear, but doesn't seem to work. I have run out of options and would like a trainer to see what I am doing wrong. I have taken my dog for obedience training. The person didn't help me on the barking, and pulling on leash. It also stills jumps when people come to the door. I need a lot of work still with the dog. The dog knows stay, down, and comes sometimes.I am wondering if it has to be that the dog is a teenager, and maybe I should have patience and maybe when he reaches 2 years old. If someone shows me what to do than I will do the work with him. I exercise my dog lots. We walk 7 miles twice a day, so he is tired when we get home. Its just barking, pulling on leash and jumping.

I take my dog to obedience training each Saturday because I'd like her to become a therapy dog. Whenever our dogs do something wrong, they are sternly warned with a loud "ch" sound and then we turn the dogs around and walk in the opposite direction. Any pulling, barking, or jumping after we go back to walking is quickly reprimanded and we end the walk again. We use clickers to reward good behavior. Have you tried a clicker?
