On your period, Just talk to your mother, This is a natural happening. A medical check up is great, since it normally there is no problem, but if there is, then things caught early, and solved easy

Can you ask to switch to a female doctor? Your mom should understand.

So you have a male doctor? Is that what's bothering you?

Many women prefer a female doctor when it comes to physicals. At your age a physical will be tapping your knees to check your reflexes, listening to your heart, taking blood, an eye test. Nothing invasive, not even after you start your period. It only becomes more personal once you're sexually active, which at 10 you shouldn't have to worry about, hopefully, for a very long time.

Tell mom that you don't feel comfortable with a male doctor. She should understand.

Frankly, I prefer a male doctor. I've been to female doctors for a full physical, pap smear, the works, and boy, what a difference. In my experience female doctors are rougher when it comes to female tests. Men, since they don't have the parts we do, and don't know how it feels, tend to be a bit more gentle. At least in my experience.

As for getting your period, and being worried about it. That's normal. You're 10, so you'll likely have a bit of time before that starts for you. It will start, because that's the way it is. All girls become women, and all women menstruate. What specifically are you worried about?
