    Thermostat
Okay... so it's 5 am and I've awakened fairly cold. Not freezing as it's September, but cold and the kids are getting up soon. I check the thermostat and it's a blank screen. I switched batteries three times, hit the reset and played with any and all buttons to no avail. I grabbed the info on the back cover and googled it and I found you guys. After reading everyone's complaint it seems they are all related and the first thing that came to mind was "contact points". I went back to the thermostat and checked them... there is a small coil where the positive end of the battery makes contact and it appeared fine. I decided to see if it had any grime preventing a clean contact so I touched it... the coil fell out onto the floor and rolled into my vents... arrrrrggghh... however, I found the problem... moisture (humidity from the summer) rusted the coil up inside and it was not connected even though it looked fine. I grabbed some tweezers and gently worked the little piece of coil (the straight part that comes down from inside the casing) out and bent it so it was exposed to the general area of the battery tip... it made contact and turned on immediately and appears to be working fine. I'm guessing it's similar to the problems you're all having.. thought this may help since you've all helped me understand it better... goodluck
