Installing new locks on old door
We have an old door that someone in the past has applied another layer of wood so it makes the door thicker than standard. The old door knob was installed without using an extension for a "thick door" and they made a circle cutout about 1/4" larger than the door knob and recessed the door knob to make it fit. When you turn the knob to open the door, your fingers barely clear. This presents a problem now that we need to install a deadbolt and a new lever handle. Question: Where do we find an extension for a " larger than the door knob and recessed the door knob to make it fit. When you turn the knob to open the door, your fingers barely clear. This presents a problem now that we need to install a deadbolt and a new lever handle. Question: Where do we find an extension for a " for the deadbolt and one for the lever handle? AND, where do we find a 2 7/8" - 3" for the deadbolt and one for the lever handle? AND, where do we find a 2 7/8"my pay grade" and I don't know who to get to help with this.

The only way to do what you want is to get a piece of plywood, cut it in a circle and inset it in the door to make the face flush. Then get locks made for thicker doors or add extension links and longer screws. HD or Lowe's can order the locks or kits. Schlage and Quikset make locks and kits for thicker doors.
