    Breastfeeding
I am 24 weeks pregnant with my first child. I am worried that I might not be producing breast milk as I have experienced no changes at all on my breast. Such as no tender breast, not growing bigger, or darker around nipples. My friends have been talking about how their breasts have changed a lot during pregnancy. I am just so worried that I might not be able to breast feed my baby.

Breast size has nothing to so with your ability to prodce breast milk or how much. The actual mammary gland in each breast that does this is about the size of a fried egg.

Some women do not experience larger breasts during pregnancy while others do.

These are all issues you should discuss with your OB/gyn if you have concerns.

Right now you should start to produce colostrum. That is the liquid gold that supplies your baby with calories and immunities. Breast milk isn't typically produced until around the third to fifth day postpartum.

Once baby baby is born you will need to put baby to breast every couple of hours. Breast milk is supply and demand. The more often you nurse, the more milk you will make.

Try not to worry. The breast enlargement, tenderness, and darkening of the areolas have nothing to do with producing breast milk. Just as some women will leak colostrum in pregnancy and others will not. It is actually very uncommon for a woman not to produce breast milk.

If you were to gently compress your breast as if to express breast milk, from about mid breast to the areola, you might notice some drops of colostrum show as was mentioned.
