My son has been constapated all his life he is 6, I have had numerous trips to the gp with no joy,he has been given lactolose(sp?) in the past that has worked wonders, he is on a fibre filled diet, plenty of fruit brown bread, potatoes, fibre brekkies, over the past few months it has gotten worse, he is screaming in pain and is having like 4 days off school at a time, its very upsetting, I got his teacher the write a letter to the gp about it, the gp referred us to the hospitail that is for the 2nd may, he has had it really bad since Sunday now, he has had his two medicines lactalose and senna but nothing is shifting, he is constantly crying and hasn't been off the toilet:(
I have a appointment with the gp again tonight, but they just talk crap really, they won't listen! How can I stop his pain:confused:

Well, your GP probably does not understand what is going on. You need to get him into a gastroenterologist. That is a doctor who deals with the GI tract and knows about these problems in more detail.

I am so sorry your son is going through this it is quite painful. If he is in that much distress it is probably in your best interest to take him to the emergency room now. He may have an impacted bowel and that should be checked as it can be quite dangerous.

I told my husband lets take him to the hospitial and he said there's no point they wouldn't be able to do anything, I said well it's a hospitial he will get treated starightaway?

I know this sounds gross - but have you given him an enema? He will probably fight you but he might find relief.

Also, you can try adding mineral oil to his diet. You don't need much - either a teaspoon or tablespoon once a day - you can put it in his breakfast. Also, have you tried prunes?

My sister went through this with her daughter (not to this extreme) but her dr. told her to do this with her daughter and it really helped.
I would ask your dr. or pharmasist before you do anything just to make sure it doesn't effect the medication he is already on.
And, if you feel like his symptoms are getting worse - you should take him to the hospital. They can help - this could be backing up into his intestines and doing damage.

My son suffers from this. I had to give him a couple enemas to clear out the main blockage, and then we put him on Milk of Magnesia followed by a full glass of water twice a day. This helps to soften his stools so it is less painful. It has been working well for us. Although if you already have him on a high fiber diet, maybe you should seek out a different doctor...
