I replaced a Hampton bay three speed fan switch I put Black onL, Grey on 1, brown on 2, and purple on 3 and now fan only works on high and low after a couple of pulls no off or middle speed.

What color wires go to which slot? On the switch there is 1,2,3 & L and I have yellow, purple, black and orange wires.

I had to replace the pull switch on my ceiling fan due to the chain being pulled out.. the original switch has this order.. L-BLACK 1-GRAY 2-BROWN 3-GREEN I've tried 2 different 3 speed switches and have hooked it up the same way as the original,but now I get a HIGH-HIGH-LOW speed no off... anyone...

What if someone by mistake wrongly connect the load on the switch (L) to one of the other wires (yellow, red, green)? Can this (cross wiring or mixing) cause (cross-wire) damage to the motor? Please help. I need this help urgently. View more questions Search
