    Ovulation/pregnancy
Hi, I need some advice/guaidance. My period started at 16. Was never regular. (2-4 mo without one). At 18 I was put on a pill, which worked great. I was on it for 15 yrs non stop. I am 33 now and stopped taking the pill 9 months ago. Periods are still irregular, with light bleeding. My obgyn did the following tests:INHIBIN; FSH; Estradiol, Prolactin; TSH; Progesterone, Testosterone; Hemoglobin and glucose tests. All tests came back NORMAL. I had a procedure done to check my uterus and tubes. All clear and positioned normally. Progesterone test in June showed that I ovulated. I had a light period, we tried to conceive again. However, test in July (this mo) showed I did not ovulate. I am waiting for my period and now its day 33 and no period/discharge of any sort. What can be done to fix this? I want my body to work like its suppose to... I exercise regularly (not over extending myself) and maintain healthy weight. No smoking/heavy drinking or drugs. No diseases or health issues. Please help. Thank you, Ana

There's very little anyone online can do to help. There are no doctors on this site, and even if there were, no doctor would guess at a diagnosis without any tests done, and the results of those test.

It's best to continue with your OBGYN. He/she is the one most capable of helping you.

    Good luck.

    Hi Ana,

When you see your doctor next, ask about alternative ways, both medications and herbal supplements, for helping to regulate your cycles besides birth control pills. While they are often used for this purpose, they obviously won't be a good option since you are trying to conceive. In addition, since you are not ovulating on a regular basis, you can discuss ways of helping to regulate that as well. Most often Clomid is used, but there are alternatives as well.

When you had the numerous tests before, when did they check the progesterone level? At what point in your cycle? When they checked it for ovulation in June and July, where were you in your cycle?

If you don't feel your gyn can help, you could also ask for a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist.

Thank you DoulalC. I really appreciate your message. Progesterone was done on day 21-23 of my cycle. It was checked in June and July. I know that they have pills to help me regulate/ovulate like Clomid but its hormones and there is a chance of multiple pregnancies so I was hopeful it can be fixed by figuring out the problem.

Anyway, thank you again. I think its an excellent idea to get a referral to reproductive endocrinologist.

Clomid is not really a hormone itself, but it interacts with the hormone estrogen. Another option that many women prefer to try first, due to fewer possible side effects, is Vitex. This can take a few months of use, but has been quite successful and is a long standing alternative.

When you see your doctor, or an RE, ask about your options and what may be best for you with your test results and particular history.
