Chirping when furnace runs from gas meter location

 When our furnace turns on, there is a 'chirping' sound that comes from the area of our gas meter. I called the gas company and they said this was normal. However, this noise is loudest near a bedroom. Any ideas of how to muffle or soundproof the area?
