    State Returns - NY MO
(I filed the NY and Fed Extensions on time.) Last Year 2004, I moved from MO to NY. My new job began in Jan 04, in NYC, so all taxes were set up that way, as I was moving. My home in NY was purchased in June 04, the MO home sale ended in July 04. My Question is: How many state returns do I have to file. We ended the year in NY. I was in rentals in NY during the spring of 04.

    Felixthecat:

If you had any income from Missouri (as indicated by a 2004 W-2), you have to file a Part-Year Resident Income Tax Return for both Missouri and New York.

If not, then you file as a full-time resident of NY.

In either case, do not forget to claim moving expenses on both the federal income tax return and the NY state income tax return.
