    Hi,

How do I stop the Windows has Blocked Some Startup Programs message appearing completely using the Vista Registry only?

Thank you for your patience in this matter and I do look forward to receiving a reply from you soon in the near future.

    Hi ScottGem

Thank you for your reply on the 13 of June to my question and I apologise for not responding sooner.

    In answer to your reply:

I already know about "Start> Run> MSConfig" because I have used that method & because whenever I have searched online for a Registry answer to prevent the "Blocked Some Startup Programs" message appearing completely that is the answer I seem to find a lot of the time, which is not what I want!

But, although no one is willing to provide me, or has provided me, with an answer yet I strongly believe that there is a safe and legitimate answer available. This is simply because I have come close to finding an answer whilst searching online.

Also, yes, Vista is still installed on this laptop and I have been using it for about 4 months since my wife gave it to me after she bought a notebook that has Windows 7 installed. I am still getting used to it after using XP for many years. I know it's 'old hat' but, eventually, I will be upgrading to Windows 7 - that's if we can afford it as we are currently unemployed!

Lastly, I will end this message by 'saying':

"Thank you for your patience in this matter & I do look forward to receiving your reply soon in the near future that answers the above 'irritating' problem - with maybe a suggested website or link included?"

I would assume you've already tried this, but just in case take a look at this page for a procedure to fix this.

    Good luck,

    Hi WallyH

Thank you for your quick response to the reply which I sent to ScottGem.

But, as I have previously stated in the query message, which I posted on the
13 of June, I am looking to use the Registry only to stop the ""Blocked Some Startup Programs" message appearing completely!

Also, as I have already 'said' to ScottGem:

"I already know about "Start> Run> MSConfig" because I have used that method & because whenever I have searched online for a Registry answer to prevent the " because I have used that method & because whenever I have searched online for a Registry answer to prevent the " message appearing completely that is the answer I seem to find a lot of the time, which is not what I want!"

So, I thank you for your patience in this matter & I do look forward to receiving your reply soon in the near future that answers the above 'irritating' problem - with maybe a suggested website or link included?

Sorry, but I'm not a Registry expert. I don't enter the Registry without specific instructions. Not even sure where to direct you for a better place to ask your question.

Here is a Microsoft page that explains why your getting the message. Basically UAC (User Account Control) is preventing the program from starting cause it thinks it may be malware. They have steps for you to try but not the registry. If you turn off UAC and it is malware you could be screwed royal. Hi Appzalien

Thank you for your message. In that message you stated "preventing the program from starting".

Well, I need to state a correction: I am not looking for a Registry 'fix' or a safe and legitimate hack to do that.

Also, in your message, you provided me with a link that connects to the Microsoft website.

That website lists 3 solutions for the Windows Has Blocked Some Startup Programs message:

    1. Run the blocked program or the blocked service;

    2. Disable the blocked program or the blocked service;

    3. Remove the blocked program or the blocked service from the startup process.

But I must state another correction: I am looking to use a Registry 'fix' or a safe and legitimate hack only to stop the above message appearing and not what it suggests on the Microsoft website - although I have already stated in my first posted message even though I did not state the word 'fix' or the phrase "safe and legitimate hack"!

Hope that makes it clearer, I thank you for your patience in this matter and I do look forward to receiving your reply soon in the near future that answers the above 'irritating' problem - with maybe a suggested website or link included?

You may find the list of start up programs in the registry here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSconfig\StartupReg
Simply delete a subkey to remove it from msconfig. Be careful however, there is always danger in editing the registry, and deleting the wrong startup programs can disable hardware, programs or the computer itself.

You may also find the following key interesting:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

It controls a lot of what runs on startup also.

    Hi InfoJunkie4Life

Thank you for your reply. But, sorry, I need to state a correction: I am not looking for a Vista Registry 'fix' or safe and legitimate hack to stop any program running at startup even though I have already used MSConfig to stop some installed programs.

Also, sorry for 'saying' this but, please re-read my original posted message as well as the replies to ScottGem, WallyH and Appzalien so that you can understand (cannot think of another appropriate word) what I am 'looking for' - it will save form repeating what I have already 'said'.

Lastly, please be assured, that I thank you for your suggestion, I thank you for your patience in this matter and I do look forward to receiving a reply from you soon in the near future - maybe with a link or suggested website?

P.S. To ScottGem, WallyH, Appzalien, InfoJunkie4Life and anyone else, please note: have visited some sites that provide Vista Registry 'fixes' or safe and legitimate hacks but I have not found the particular one that stops that 'irritating' message from appearing - but as I state in one of my replies "have come close"!

I guess I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do. I'll rephrase it to what I think you want and you can correct any misunderstanding.

There is some program trying to run at startup that Vista for whatever reason has blocked. To stop the "blocked" message from popping up, you need to determine which program it is that Vista doesn't like. This would be done using process of elimination--turn all of the programs that attempt to run at startup off and then turn them on one-at-a-time until the problem comes back. That's the culprit, and it either needs to be repaired if you need it or eliminated completely.

Here is a great program to examine and control startup processes from Mark Russinovich of Microsoft.

    Autoruns for Windows

I'd disable all the startup programs off and make sure Vista boots with no message. Then turn them on until the problem comes back.

I hope this makes sense and is some help,

    Hi WallyHelps

Thank you for your message. But, I am sorry to say, you have misunderstood what I am trying to
do: "How do I stop the Windows Has Blocked Some Startup Programs message appearing completely
    using the Vista Registry only?"

Please notice that when I use the word 'only' I do mean the Registry only and not another method!

Also, if you read over again my replies to Appzalien, InfoJunkie4Life and ScottGem that you will
understand further what I am trying to do. This is because I do not want to repeat myself trying to
    explain again.

Hope that helps, thank you for your patience in this matter and I do look forward to receiving your
reply soon in the near future - with maybe a Registry only suggestion to stop the MSConfig message
appearing completely, a link or suggested website that provides hundreds of Vista Registry 'fixes' or
    safe and legitimate hacks!

I guess I can't help you. My point is that until you know which program is causing the problem, you won't know what to change in the registry. Making blind registry changes is likely to cause you problems.

    I wish you luck.

    Hi WallyHelps

Thank you for your reply. I was sorry to read that you could not help me with a Registry only suggestion and I was sorry to note that you could not provide me with a link or suggested website that provides hundreds of Vista Registry 'fixes' or safe and legitimate hacks!

But I must make a correction in my defence:

I am not looking for a Vista Registry only 'fix' or a safe and legitimate hack to stop any program running at startup even though I have already used MSConfig to stop some installed programs.

Also, you stated "you won't know what to change in the registry" and "Making blind registry changes is likely to cause you problems" in your last message.

Well, I must make another correction in my defence as a 60 to 70% experienced user:

We (myself and my wife) have been using Windows since 3.1 When I use to use Windows 98 I always 'entered' the Registry to perform 'housekeeping' duties. It never caused any problems at anytime. Nowadays, even though I am not scared to 'enter' the Vista Registry to perform the same, I much prefer to use safe instructions! That means that I will not be "making blind registry changes" that would "likely to cause (you) problems"!

Also, that is why I have visited some sites that provide Vista Registry 'fixes' or safe and legitimate hacks.

But, so far I have not found the particular one that stops that 'irritating' MSConfig message from appearing - but as I state in one of my replies "have come close"!

Lastly, if you do find a Registry only suggestion or a website or websites that do provide hundreds of Vista Registry 'fixes' or safe and legitimate hacks, for the above problem, in the near future during a search, then please let me know by return reply.

Thank your for your patience in this matter and I do look forward to receiving your reply soon in the near future, if applicable.
