My outside spigot is full of mud debris from bugs making a nest in it. I can't get any water out of the spigot. The valve is on. I have used a coat hanger to get some of the debris out but it is stopped up. Do you have any suggestions on how to get this unclogged?

Shut the water off to the house at the house shut off. Now unscrew the bonnet packing nut and turn the stamina washer assembly counterclockwise. You may now put your coat hanger up the spout to clean it out. Turn the water back on for a moment to flush out any debris that you have left. Reassemble and test good luck, Tom

Here, you want to shut this valve off and then you want to remove the "guts" of the outside spigot. If you have an anti.-freeze spigot you'll probably only have one nut behind the handle...remove this nut and it should allow access to remove the guts of the valve. If you have an older style spigot you will find a packing nut and a "stem removal nut" behind the handle...loosen the stem removal nut and that is what will allow access to the guts.

Once you have the guts removed, then as Tom suggested, you'll "turn the water back on for a moment to flush out any debris that you have left" in the line and then reassemble the spigot and should be back up and running if you are lucky!!

I'm confused! At no time in my post did I say, "The valve is on." No word about a ani freeze hose bib so I didn't address it. I just went over my post and could find nothing in it that I would change. Since I didn't say anything about a opened out what else to find fault with my post? Back to you, Tom

I popped in to help because Bcu mentioned this valve and it obviously worked so I didn't want him/her to mess with the main water shutoff if the spigot shut off worked.

Next, dragonspeak (which I didn't mention) allowed this to pop up, "Now unscrew the bonnet packing nut and turn the stamina washer assembly counterclockwise". As a plumber out in the field every day, I knew there was a difference between the packing nut of the older style spigots and the newer anti.-freeze faucets, so I explained the difference to Bcu...just in case was all!

Finally, I also couldn't tell what, "stamina washer assembly counterclockwise" meant. I could have guessed and did a quick correction, but I really wasn't sure, so I simply thought I would "pop in" and see if I could help clear all that up a bit...

I hope all that made sense??

I misunderstood your post. I was under the impression that you thought I said"the valve is on" in my post. But so what? My solution still holds. You are saying that because " the valve is on" that it's working all nice and normal? I have a different take. Sounds to me likje the cvalve is on but clogged, And just where did "anti-freeze" enter the question? Not from the OP. All in all, exactly whwt do you find weong with my solution? Back to you. Tom

I think I explained myself quite well, Tom...not gonna explain anymore on this one. The fact is that your post didn't make sense as put up and I stopped in and helped as best I could. If you don't see it that way then I won't pop in and help when I see that your dragonspeak program messed up (again) any more...no problem!
