Sewer smell
I live on the 3rd floor of a apartment there is a plastic pipe coming out of the wall by the hot water tank there is a sewer smell coming from it I have tried putting water in it once a day from reading advice online but this really doesn't seem to help much and the maintenance staff doesn't seem to know much besides putting water in the tube
Any help or advice would be great
Thanks

how big is this pipe? Is It capped off or open? What size are the smaller pipes? Where do they connect and where did they go? Can you tell me where the smell is worse? Back to you, Tom

The pipe is about a 2 inch pipe with a larger opening at the top there is also a pipe coming from the top of the hot water tank to pump water into the pipe also but not connected to the pipe in the wall and it is not capped off the only other pipes are the cold and hot water pipes for the hot water tank oh yea there is a pipe coming from the furnace also that goes to the pipe in the wall the smell is def worse around the opening of the pipe going into the wall I took a picture but some reason there doesn't look like a place for attachments here

Looks like a condensate line or a line from a TPV. Does the pipe come from the Water Heater? This is in the wall? Stuff newspaper in the opening or use metal tape.

It does not come from the hot water heater it goes directly into the wall
Nothing is hooked to it. I could close it off but wanted to try and find out what its purpose was so I didn't do something wrong

One smaller pipe is coming from the top of the hot water tank to drain water and the other is coming from the furnace area
