    Dog bite concerns
My wife got bite by a dog on last Thursday morning and the following day it was bruising and now she's having headaches all the time. We don't have health insurance and within the first 24 hrs, we didn't feel the concern. With the bruising now and the headaches, getting a little more concerned. Not sure if there's anything they can do cause someone told me if it's been beyond 24 hrs, there's not much they can do... any advice please?

The bite mark is on her stomach, next to her belly button. We have been putting Destinen (however you spell that) and putting bandaid. Its about 2.5 inches long

She should probably see the doctor. Who owns the dog?

A friend I always dog sit for and this time she came with me and got up earlier than I did and went to take the dog outside to go potty and I'm guessing he bite her cause he wasn't use to her, but then again, I don't know. I've personally never had any problems with the dog. It's a beagle/bassett hound type dog, not really that big.

Just the fact she's been getting headaches a lot since then. Not sure if itd have anything to do with the dog bite but just concerned. She's not had a tetanus shot and that worried me also.

To be safe, she should see a doctor...and perhaps the dog owner should be paying for it.

This is the dog owner's responsibility. You should already have informed the owner of the bite. The owner needs to have your wife and the dog examined by doctors, to make certain nothing contagious has happened.

You should make sure that the dog is up to date on their shots as well. Rabies in particular. Make sure nothing got transferred.

As well this needs to be reported. Which might not go so well for the dog or dog owner, because it usually requires seizure of the dog and a behavioural analysis. The owner might get fined and the dog might get destroyed. It's harsh, but it is the law. At least in my neck of the woods.

Dog bites usually aren't serious if they don't require stitches, unless there's something wrong with the dog, or the bite isn't treated properly.

Is the bite site red and inflamed? Any sign of infection? Bruising is normal, usually when a dog bites it pinches veins under the skin and causes bruising. Did the dog break the skin when it bit her?

It looked like a scratch at first but with the bruising, it looked a lot worse. No breaking of the skin. The bite on her face was bleeding a little, but it didn't bleed long.
