    I fear getting old
Hello I'm Buttons I'm 23 and I have a fear of getting old, for a very long time I've had a very bad fear of getting old, even the sight of some one old really bugs me
And the reason why I think I fear getting old is because I don't want to have to depend on others to help or deal with me or be a burden to them, and the loss of being able to walk really kicks me in the teeth hell seeing a walker, cane or wheelchair makes me want to scream bloody murder in my head , just overall getting old scares the crap out of me. And it just seems like getting old makes for a lot of suffering for the person who is indeed old, they look like there in pain and just don't want to live at all.
And to make things worse I don't fear dying , I just fear getting old.

Getting older really isn't bad. In a lot of ways we are glad we aren't 23 any longer because we rememebr being 23.

Also consider there are a lot of young people confined to wheelchairs... its not an end to their life... its only an inconvienience... something we all live with, what varies between people is what the inconvienience is and how many they have to live with.

I'm 67 and going downhill physically. I don't like it. I had finally reached some peace with myself, my mean mother, some tragedies in my life, and realized that I don't need a husband or boyfriend. So as G B Shaw said "Youth is wasted on the young." Wisdom arrives just when you don't get to enjoy a lot of it. Actually very funny, a good joke on us.

IF you reach old age in one piece and alive, THEN you can do what we are all doing, OR perhaps our society will allow anyone to be put to sleep like a pet. It's already started in some countries, and the US states are passing more and more right to die laws, although so far only for terminal illnesses.

I happen to believe in the right of anyone 21 or older to be peacefully put to sleep just because we want it! I'd require a waiting period for anyone under 65, 52 weeks minus 1 week for every year over 21. (Age 61 = wait of 12 weeks)
So stay informed on all this. It will ease your worries. Knowledge is very soothing.
