Why doesn't she jut leave you stuff in her will? Then its an inheratance and not taxible income that must be reported.

Of course she can, but as Smoothy has noted, the amount you are paid would be subject to federal income tax. Also there are employment taxes involved. Check with an accountant.

By the way, it would be incorrect for you to say "I am her POA". A power of attorney is a document, not a person. You have her POA.

Agreed, of course, government assistance can not pay you. She will have to pay you directly out of her bank account. My thought, is perhaps, you want a transfer of funds, to you. To be protected from the ALF claim on your mothers money or property later ?

Just one thought, that came to mind... I guess in this, what duties will you do.. if the pay correct for your level of care, education and training. Will there be taxes paid on this, and will it be reported income.

What is the main reason for the pay?

Just for managing her financials? Sure you can get a stipend. You could do it as an independent contractor, instead of a salary and then she would need to issue you a 1099. If she pays you a salary, she would have to pay withholding, SS taxes, etc. and do the appropriate IRS filings. Of course you would be doing that for her.
