Howdy!

I'm doing a complete bathroom remodel. I've moved the toilet from one end of the bathroom to the other (about 7 feet away). I have an old cast iron stack/drain that was in the wall behind the toilet (old toilet location). I'd rather not move the stack if I don't have too.. My plan is to run 4" PVC in the basement and tie into the cast iron. Is it acceptable to use a tap saddle (Fernco, Inc.) to tie into a vertical stack/drain? My concerns are leaking and of course code. I live in SW Missouri.

You don't need to remove the old cast iron pipe but cap the inlet. The saddle wye should work but be careful to follow the instructions when sealing.

After thinking about it, I think I should post a couple pics on what I want to do.

Plan 1.
There is a 2" wye going into the 4" vertical drain. My thought is to get a sawz-all and cut the 2" portion of the wye off, enlarge the hole to the appropriate diameter, then use the saddle wye over the old cast iron wye. I have right at 6" of room between couplings. I fear I may run into sealing problems.

Is that a reasonable approach?

If that is a kooky way to do it, my next plan of attack would be to tap into the cast iron pipe below the 2" wye.

Which way makes more sense?

I'd rather avoid replacing the cast iron stack because it runs into the attic and out the roof.

I'd go with the wye tap lower on the pipe than cutting the iron pipe. Tapping isn't going to be fun, that stuff is hard to drill/cut. You have orkum and lead sealing those pipes, don't mess with the seals. Could you tell me what the white plastic things is over your door header?

The white plastic thing is a PVC clean out connected to a Fernco coupler that's connected to the cast iron pipe I cut out. That's where the 90 was that connected to the toilet. My original thought was to cut through two floor joists to join the new toilet drain to where I now have the clean out (clean out there temporarily).

I went to purchase my saddle and got to talking to a plumber. He suggested just cutting out a section of pipe (below the iron wye) and using two Fernco couplers with a PVC wye. I'm leaning toward that route..

Would that be a better fit for my application?

If he is a reputible plumber I'd go with his rec. It is difficult for me to give better advice by looking at pics.
