I feel a surge go down my arms and both hands go numb usually while lying on my back
I sleep on my back with my arms by my side. Lately a couple of times a night I wake with a sudden breath taking surge that feels like it goes down my arms then both hands go numb. After shaking them for a bit I'm fine. Does this sound like a pinched nerve. I do sit at a computer all day.

Yes, you do need medical attention. Because I suffered from the same ailment in my left arm, it is very similar sensation to carpal tunnel syndrome from repetitive motion and yes, people on keyboards suffer from this every day. See your doctor and suggest a specialist for this.

We can't diagnose on AMHD, but from my own experience (I am well now because of the surgery for this) I am suggesting this because it is similar but may not be the same because we do not know your medical condition, or what meds you are on. Please see your doctor for further guidance.
