Hooking up a gas line to a stove
I'm installing a gas stove up to an L.P. line.
Using pipe dope on the fittings, will the ribbon type dope like on water fittings work?

    Hi Kevin

I don't understand what "ribbon type dope" is? There is pipe dope and there is Teflon tape and there is gas piping tape...which are you asking about? If you are asking about gas piping tape then it should be a YELLOW tape (see image) and YES, that is acceptable to be used with LP or natural gas.

Further, if you are hooking LP to a stove, is the stove rated for LP gas or for natural gas? If the stove was previously used for natural gas then you will need the LP gas orifices to be swapped over (should be taped on back of stove if you are lucky and need them).

You should also have an ANTI.-TIP bracket/hanger with the stove (see image of a typical anti.-tip device). Please be sure to install this device as it SAVES LIVES!!!

    Back to you...

Mark brings up a very good point. I see too many gas fittings with White Teflon. However, you must use Yellow Teflon on gas lines.

So I am remodeling my kitchen and I just bought a new Kenmore gas stove. Went to hook up the gas line and the line from the new stove is bigger than the hard line I need to hook it to. Looks like the old gas line may have been 3/4 and the new is an 1in. Neither Lowe's or home depot sell an...

I bought a new gas dryer. I need to hook the dryer up to the gas line. The gas line has a T connector with a cap on it. I think the gas line and the female connector is 1 inch, but I'm not sure. As near as I can tell, I'll need to get an adaptor that goes from 1 inch down to 1/2 inch, put...

My daughter has purchased a new gas range, when she went to install, or delivery people did, they found that the pipe from the old stove will not allow this range to be push right to the wall. The stove sticks out about 4 inches. It appears that the old stove must have had it's back off, thus...
