I have a new (1 yr old) Carrier Dual Fuel split unit installed at my home and the professional that installed it I believe missed something. Because the system is in a basement he installed a pump that the Air Conditioning drains into and pumps to the outside of the home. There is also a drip pan/catch pan installed under the air/blower units with a unit kill switch installed where it cuts off the units if the drip pan fills up with water. The Air Conditioning works fine and excess produced water is pumped outside the home via the electrical pump however this winter when temps dropped very low the Emergency heat came on and I would notice that after about 5 to 7 hours of operation the Thermostat blanked out and the unit was unresponsive and dead. Investigation yielded that the drip pan kill switch was activated because the drip pan filled with water to the point of over filling. I took a shop vac and vacuumed out the standing water allowing the kill switch to allow powering up the unit and it would work again, at least for another 5-7 hours. Obviously the installer missed something but I'm wondering just how easy it will be for me to correct it or if there is potentially a worse problem. This is a Carrier Dual Fuel unit. You need to find out where that water is coming from. Emergency heat tends to be electric... and that's a dry heat that doesn't produce condensation.

The installer should have left the gas furnace installation manual with you. Look at the section dealing with condensate drainage. You may find a hose misplaced or kinked.
