I am a mother of 2. Well I just had my second one 1 year ago. When the new born was just turned 1, my 13 year old took one of it dummys and used it 24/7. I caught him and just 3 weeks ago. He bought some more and I've not said anything. I don't know what to do though?

Oh.

Sometimes it can be a sign of drug use. Be the parent and take them away.

Oliver has taught me something for sure. Never heard of the drugs possibility but sure pops up when you search it.
Just read last week about teens in the area we lived in MD about 20 years ago. They use ecigs (modify them somehow) and use them to vaporize marijuana.
Also have pill parties with bowls of all kinds of pills (some of which they get from their dealers) and they eat handfuls of misc pills from the bowls like a snack mix.
Boy, have I got a lot to learn. The above was from an article in the Baltimore Sun.

Does he suck on them only at home? And in front of you? Is it possible he is saying, "Hey, Mom, don't forget me -- I am your first baby!" Are you spending special time with him too, and not just the baby?

I agree with J-9. Take them away, and tell him not to buy any more.

Don't go looking for anything else- i.e. drug use, etc. right now.

At his age, he probably has an allowance. I would take that away too, to make sure he doesn't buy more dummies.

How can you expect to deal with anything more serious down the road, if you can't figure out how to deal with this?

Yep, if he uses them, ground him, no TV, no internet, or what ever.
At 13, you just tell him no, and make him stop.

Sucking on pacifiers is a young teen fad. Its not just drug users, though a lot do use drugs. If it where my kid, I would tell them to take that stupid thing out of their mouth and make them throw it away.

Thtats not much different than a toothpick or piece of straw would be.(Except being harder on the teeth and waistline).. a babies pacifier in a teenagers mouth makes them look mentally deficient. Much like a big old thick nose ring would accomplish.
