    Am I pregnant?
I had my periods on 9th February and after that I was sexually active regularly the whole month (with protection). I have missed my date for the month of March. I recently tried a pregnancy test using a test kit I bought from the medical store. It is showing positive. How do I know if the result is accurate?

Because there is almost never ever a false positive, only false negative. But you confirm it by going to the doctor for a blood test.

Sir, Actually someone told me that it usually takes 3 months at least for the embryo to develop. And any test done before 3 months will not show accuarte results. Is it true?

    No, that is incorrect.

Since a great deal of development happens in the first months of pregnancy, it would be especially important for a woman to know that she is pregnant at that time. The basics: on average, it takes about 6-10 days for the embryo to travel to and implant into the uterus after fertilization. Once this occurs, the hormone associated with pregnancy (hCG) starts to be produced. With the sensitivity of several home pregnancy tests today, many women will get an accurate result not long after a missed a period... about 14 days after ovulation. A few might even get an accurate result a bit sooner, although this is not the norm, and some will find it takes a bit longer.

How soon depends on the sensitivity of the test, when a women ovulates in her cycle, and how well she follows the directions on the test.

If you used the test correctly, especially when to read the test results, then you are likely pregnant. As Fr_Chuck said, it is not common to get a false positive. If you read the test after the time stated for results, it may sometimes appear to be a light positive. If you are not sure, either try another test, or see your doctor for confirmation.
