    Law Firm/Collection Agency
I owe money to Capital One and it is my debt under my own name... not married. I do not have a checking account but I do have a savings account with my husband... can they put a freeze on that or on my husband's personal account? The collection agency has turned it over to a law firm.

A joint account, yes. An account in his own name, probably not.

I have a letter from a law firm about my debt to Capital One... what is my next step? The letter states, "This office has been retained in their claim against you...." 30 days to dispute. Do I ask for debt validation from the law firm? If so what is the proper wording? I know I owe the money... but I can afford to pay back right now. I avoided the calls for too long.

Your reply was helpful ScottGem... I hope I don't get that far.

Ask them what it would take to settle.

I would call first. You don't want to put YOUR offer in writing unless it will be agreed to.
