My brother is requesting I legally adopt his unborn child
I am a recovering addict and rehabilitated felon. I am studying to become a counselor and am currently an assistant supervisor at very well known rehab center. My brother and his girlfriend would like my husband and I to adopt their unborn baby. What are the odds of tis even being legally allowed? It would be a private adoption in which we are all in agreement.

If you are all in agreement, it should go through. But you NEED and attorney to manage this. So start shopping around for a lawyer and get their opinion.

What was the felony? You do have to pass a home study process but if your issues were drugs and you can demonstrate long term sobriety and that you have turned your life around it can likely be done.

You talk to a lawyer and the first thing he will ask is WHY?

If this is a private adoption you may not have to go though a home study. That's one of the reasons you need to do this through an attorney.

Correct, there are various exception to home study requirements. It varies from state to state. So one would have to know which the state is in which the child is to be born.
