Sealed docs being delivered from private courier on behalf of arbitration services
I haven't got the docs yet. I just got call from pvt courier that he has sealed docs. For me and he is dropping by my office to deliver it and also ask me to show my ID.
On phone he gave me the no. to call if I have any questions and I called it is the office of Arbitration services. I believe this regarding the credit card debt from 1997 which I did not pay and about 5 or 6 thousand dollars. There was no activity since then.

I have been ignoring the debt collectors call for a long time and did not realize that they would go to arbitration service.

I am very worried and I don't know what to do next. Should I hire a lawyer or talk to the arbitrator? Should I also receive the package from that pvt courier?

    Please help me... Thank you

What country or US state is it in which you are located?

I am not aware of any state in which submitting to arbitration tolls the applicable statute of limitations. On the other hand, it may be a process server seeking to serve you with process (a lawsuit).

First, dodging the service of documents is foolish. They will get you or they will report that they tried and you refused in which case they get a default judgement.

So the first thing to do is accept it and find out what its really about. A debt from 1997 is past the Statute of Limitations.

Thanks for your reply and as you said I will accept the docs. Is delivered. The so called pvt. Courier caller id is Restricted and left a message that he will deliver the sealed docs. At my employment and also said that if I have any questions call this this no. and file no. too.
When I called that no. it goes to answering service and it greets with Arbitration service and give several options to talk to someone...

Do you think it is really a Arbitration thing or just a debt collector. Like I said this is a credit card debt from 1997.

Thanks in advance for your response...

I think it is a debt collector. I was thinking it might be a process server, but chances are slim that the creditor would bother with suing over something so far past the SOL.

To my knowledge, there is no such thing as debt arbitration (or mediation) absent a lawsuit first being filed.
