I bought a hampton bay mediterranean ceiling fan a couple of years ago.. a while back, it stopped working.. I replaced the wireless receiver and remote, but still nothing.. it is wired directly with no wall switch, and there is power to the fan.. is there anything else I can do?

I live in Phoenix, AZ and have a patio that is in full shade all day long. It received no direct sunlight. I was wondering if I could have a Mediterranean Fan Palm potted on this patio? I wouldn't be looking for it to grow, but just stay alive and provide a nice view. Obviously, it will not...

I have tried a number of ways to fit the remote fan receiver into the canopy but have been unsuccessful. Any ideas? I looked at the diagram and it shows the receiver oriented with flat side up. Despite my efforts, I just can't seem to make it fit.
