I just purchased a Krystal Pure KS15HE 50,000 Capacity from Lowe's I have a couple questions.
1) I haven't installed the softener yet and I am concerned that I purchased the wrong size softener for my home. I have a custom home at 5,500sqft, 5 people, and my water hardness is currently 13.45 GPG or 230ppm. Our water hardness will range from 10-17 throughout the year. When I calculated my size I figured 75 galons per person and the max hardness of 17. Therefore, 5 people x 75 galons x 17 GPG = 6375. I multiplied this by 7 days (or a week) for normal regeneration and I got 44,625 grain capacity needed. Therefore, I purchased the 50,000 unit. But I started wondering if I didn't take other conditions into account. My home has two 75 gal gas water heaters which are both on circulation pumps. One of the water heaters circulates 4 hours and the other circulates 8 hours. We have 4 1/2 baths but only 3 get used on a regular basis. Did I purchase the right size water softener?
2) My plumbing loop for my water softener is 1-1/4" copper. The Krystal Pure says it can handle up to 1-1/4" but tail pipes for the inlet/outlet connections that are included with the softner are for 1". Should I reduce down to 1" and will this reduce my water pressure for the home? I have found there are Megaflow Super Water Flex Stainless Steel hoses with inner diameter of 1-1/4" and 1-1/4" connectors available that I may purchase. I'm in the process of contacting Krystal Pure to see if this flex pipe will fit their product. I have also contacted the supplier of the flex hose to see if it will fit the softener. I haven't received a response yet.

If you go back to Lowe's they have a water softener adapter, 1 1/4 to 1" adapter. If they don't have it HD does.
