Compression fitting won't fit on cut copper pipe
I'm trying to replace my kitchen sink faucet. The sink and pipes were very old so I had to cut the pipes. I don't know the right terminology but I went to Home Depot, and the man there fixed me up with one half inch compression fittings for my 1/2 inch copper pipe. So far so good. I did the cold water pipe perfect no problem. But when it came to the hot water pipe the compression fitting will not fit on the pipe and they are both 1/2 inch. The man at Home Depot was puzzled, I'm still puzzled and cannot find an answer as to how to get this compression fitting to fit on the pipe. The only advice I have gotten is to keep sanding it until the compression fitting will fit on top and then I could sweat it on. Can somebody please give me a suggestion as to how I can hook up my hot water once again I've been three days without it. HELP

You have told me everything except what won't fit. Is it the ferrule (The little copper ring) or is it the compression nut? Is it 1/2" copper pipe coming out of the wall? How did you cut this pipe? With a copper cutter or with a hacksaw? Back to you. Tom
