    Adjusting the air flow to the different rooms in my house
    I have an older home and the previous owner added an upstairs by filling in some of the attic. My air and heating unit service both the upstairs and downstairs. The very first room to receive air flow from the unit is the upstairs addition, which is the least used section of the house. The main living room in the front of the house is the last room to receive air flow. This room is used as our family gathering room and is used to entertain any guests. It gets very cold during the winter in our living room, while the upstairs addition is nice and warm. We would much rather it be the other way around since we use the downstairs area much more than the upstairs. Is there a way to balance the air flow to the rooms in our house?

    The heat registers (vents) in every place I have lived have adjustible flaps that and be set full open or fully closed and everywhere in between.


    I'd recoment partially closing them in the warm rooms which should allow more heat to make it to the room at the end of the run.

    I would adjust each of the marmer rooms by closing each vent slightly until you start seeing a noticible drop in temprature.


    Consider it like havign a large bottle of soda...but more cups than you can fill up....to make it last for the final cups you have to pour less in to the first ones otherwise you run out.

I also have a room that does not cool/heat as well as the other rooms in our house(about a 4 degree F difference). The furnace and AC are forced air. We actually leave the door open to allow adequate air return. Would adding a higher output fan be a possible solution?
