How Should I Pick Up MY Daschund?
I'm 14 years old and my family and I just got a adorable Long-Haired Daschund Puppy named "Piccolo"! He is great. He is so cute, wonderful, adorable, playful, and fun... but he is also very curious and squirmy... Anyways I have a question/problem

Well I love to pick up "Piccolo" because he is so cute and small (im used to having big dogs). We went to my granparents house for Christmas (My grandparents grew up with 2 daschunds) and when I picked "Piccolo" up my grandma told me to put him down that it's very bad for his back and that I should'nt do it because he is very squirmy and he can hurt is back by trying to leap out of my arms.

So How should I pick him up? I really don't want to hurt my dog at all because I love him so much but how should I pick him up? Is there any proper way to pick him up?

It would mean a lot to me is someone could help me

    Thank you,
    Stephanie

The best way to pick up a dog is to wrap you arms around its legs letting most of the weight rest on the hips and chest on your upper arms. Fold your hands and forearms around its middle and hold it to your chest. That gives the dog overall support and is secure enough to keep him from squirming out of you arms.

If your 4 year old brother wants to hold hem, have him sit down and place the dog in his lap. If the dog isn't allowed on the furniture, your brother can sit on the floor. The dog may feel more secure with you holding it if you are seated.

It should be safe for him. You start with his weight on his hips and shoulders like when he is standing. You then add support to the middle. I should have mentioned in your other question, keep him lean as described in the link I gave you. Overweight is hard on any dog, but because of their backs, even worse for a Dachshund.

You should put your hand at is butt and your other hand under is stomach close to is fron paws and if that does not work then I don't know...
