    Am I pregnant?
Hi, I have been using birth contorl pills for 2 yrs now. My last menstruation was last Nov. 14. After that I took pills for 3 straight months. I had contact with my boyfriend last Jan. 21, which was supposed to be the second day of my ovulation according to the calendar. 3 days after that I noticed spotting which lasted for 2 days, and 4 days after that it came back. Could I be pregnant? Or could it be an effect of taking pills for 3 months straight?

When did you stop taking the pills?

If I read correctly, you took active pills for three months straight and did not have a period during that time. This would have messed up your cycle and thrown the calendar out the window. Are you back to taking them as directed?

A calendar is not going to help you know when you ovulate. That method is based on an average. You need to track your Basal Temperature and/or cervical mucus for several months to know when you ovulate. This link explains more about it: Charting Menstrual Cycle: Which Days Are You Most Fertile?

You had sex seven days ago. It is really too soon to know. What most people don't know is that fertilization of the egg and implantation is not instantaneous. It actually takes a few days. You would just now be at the point where implantation might have taken place. Even if the egg was fertilized it doesn't mean it will implant.

Home pregnancy tests are not sensitive enough to give an accurate result this early. Even one that claims to be the most sensitive says to wait until 19 days after sex or two days after you expect your period to start. Those tests however are not as accurate as waiting for two weeks (14 days) after the expected start of your period.

Any time you have sex there is a possibility of pregnancy occurring. Birth control pills and other contraceptives only decrease the odds.

It all comes down to you could be pregnant, but it is too soon to know. It could be the effect of taking birth control pills for three months straight. You are currently going to have to play the waiting game or call your doctor and ask them.

    Hi

Thank you for the reply.I really appreciate it. I haven't stopped taking pills since Nov , in fact I am still taking them. You don't ovulate when you take pills right?so the calendar that I was basing wasn't really accurate. Ive read somewhere that implantation happens 6-12 days after conception and at least a week or 2 before your period. If I finish the whole pack of pills,my ecpected date of period would have to be on Feb 13. You are right I would have to play the waiting game, but its so killing me now.

You haven't stopped taking birthcontrol and you had sex without barrier protection. I don't see why you would think you're pregnant. It is not abnormal to have spotting during your periods, even with birth control. I don't think you have anything to worry about if I read this right.

Thank you!It got me really worried since this is the first time that this happened, the spotting while on birth control pills. As of now,the discharge has become consistent. Its like the ones I get on my first day of period. So I really hope this is just breakthrough bleeding.
