Can I remove the logs from my ventless fireplace?
I would like to remove the logs from my ventless fireplace, and have just the flame with tempered glass fireplace chips. Is this possible, or do I have to replace the burner ?

    Hi Mary

I don't see why you can't do what you propose. Here, I would remove the logs, spread the glass stones and see what it looked like...you may even want to spread some of the glass fiber in amongst the glass for flickering effect, right? In terms of safety, there should be no issue using ceramic logs VS glass chips, so you should be good to go!!

The burner has little to do with it, the ventless box is the limiting factor. Depends on how you plan to have the flames. In a ventless FP, the flame must be free burning and does not contact the logs, it comes up through the log openings. If you plan to bury the burner, such that the gas will come up through the glass chips, that is not an approved use of a ventless setup. In addition, you would bury the pilot unless you have pilotless ignition. Carbon Monoxide generation is a distinct possibility in the process, which is dangerous. In a vented box, that setup would be OK.
