My Kenmore model 665.17779990 dishwasher displayed lock on light a couple months back. All attempts to reset it failed so I removed control board but couldn't find how to trouble shoot it. After reading on this site that some people had luck just cleaning the connections, I did that , put it back together and it worked fine for about two weeks then the thermal fuse went bad. Replaced fuse and it worked fine for a couple months. Then the other night after use the clean light was on and I could see that two of three wash lights and two of the three rinse lights were very dimly lit. I tried to reset it but nothing worked so I left circuit breaker off all day while we were gone. Came home ,reset breaker then the unlock button worked and it would start. While running this load the heated dry light [ which locks and unlocks unit] and the lock light would flash back and forth. After completing the wash the lock light was back on. So I unlocked it ran a second load and it acted the same . Clean light on and very dimly lit wash and rinse lights. Opened door ,clean light goes out but still have dimly lit wash and rinse lights. Any suggestions what is wrong ? How do you troubleshoot the electronic control board and the control panel? Thanks

I'd suggest you call Sears Home Central and ask for the DIY desk. It's staffed by retired Sears techs with access to a huge collection of documentation. It used to be $6.95 for each incident so it's very affordable for expert advice. I used to work for the predecessor company.

It sounds like you have a corroded connection somewhere, and/or you may also need to adjust the door lock and micro-switch on the door.

Thanks for the help, luckily it is continuing to work but I still have dimly lit wash and rinse lights and feel I will have more trouble in the future.

Any time you have a dimly lit light it always indicates a corroded connection , most likely a bad grounded connection. Many times on the touch-pad you will have dirt on the contacts. What you have to do in this situation is to remove the circuit board and peel off the rubber touchpad. Then you wash both sides with dish-washing soap and water, then wash in alcohol. Dry both pieces in the sun and re-assemble by putting a thin bead of GE Clear Silicone Caulk around edges. Make sure to scrub well with old soft toothbrush.

The lights are bright when they should be during the wash or rinse cycle , but any other time like during dry cycle or when unit is off I have two of the three wash lights and two of the three rinse lights very dimly lit. They are so dim you can hardly tell they are on. Do you still think this would be a ground problem and do you think it would be in the key pad? After my first post I removed all wires from the circuit board, did'nt see any corrosion so I reconnected them by wiggling them as I installed them so they would make a good connection. That stopped the flashing back and forth of the heated dry and lock lights but I still have the dim wash and rinse lights when not in those cycles or when unit is off. Other than those dim lights it is working correctly. Your help and advice is greatly appreciated

I think you need to remove the keypad and clean it like you do a remote control keypad. After removing it peel off the rubber keypad and carefully clean it with a soft toothbrush and shampoo or dishwashing soap. Do this to the circuit board, also. Clean the connections with whatever will work, like very fine sandpaper. Then wash off everything with 95% isopropyl alcohol or methanol. Let dry in warm place for an hour or two, or until very dry. Get some GE Clear Silicone Caulk and put a very thin bead around the edges, but leave a 1/4" gap at the bottom. Press together and let dry for two hours or so. Make sure you do not get any on the contacts under the keypad. Look at all of the connections in the dishwasher, especially under it where the water level safety is located. Look at all the sensors and with a meter check all of them and look for a grounded part. Read between the terminals to ground with the meter set to the highest setting on the ohms scale, unless you have an auto-ranging meter. Start with the wires that are disconnected from the circuit board and read each one to ground. The only one that may read is the neutral wire to the motor. If you find any other wire reading to ground you need to find out why. You could have a ground in a part or a wire or a connection.

You are making it much too complicated. I found this answer elsewhere on the net... "Depress and hold the heated dry button until the light goes out. This may take more than the suggested 4 seconds (Sears suggestion)."

Thanks! "Bakerpadre" you had the best solution. For some it may take "Depress and hold" one of the other buttons (as in my case), but it works. Thanks again for your post.
