    Why won't the hot water come on
    My hot water won't come on in the kitchen but works in the rest of the house. Cold water comes out but zero water comes out when the knob is turned up to hot only. It worked perfectly last night.

    What should I do?

    Where are you located?

    Could this be due to freezing pipes?

    Can you tell us more?

    We live in Rhode Island and yes we did get 12" of snow last night. How come none of the other hot water pipes are affected? Only the kitchen?

    Pipes possibly come up the kitchen sink in an exterior wall. Amount of snow not relative, low overnight temperature is. Open doors of sink cabinet to let more heat get in cabinet. If possible supply additional heat to sink cabinet.
    If you get hot water flowing and if temperature are expected to drop to same level tonight, open hot water and let it trickle all night. Keep cabinet doors open.

    Hi Lisa

    Most important here will be to open the hot water faucet so that water can release as the pipe thaws. Here, open the cabinet as Hkstroud suggested and then get a hair dryer and start heating the hot water pipe. Copper is a conductor of heat, so keep the hair dryer up close to the pipe nearer to the wall or floor. Again during all this the hot water side of the faucet is open.

    Water will start to drip from the faucet once you are getting close. It may take some time, but it will eventually unfreeze totally. Be clear, also, that when the pipe unfreezes it could have froze and broke (burst), so be sure to know where the main water shut off valve is...just in case (or you could just shut the cold water feed into the water heater).
