Goodman unit not blowing, burnt wiring
We have a Goodman gph1342h21ab Heat pump without auxiliary heating strips. It started smelling like burning plastic and then quit blowing. Checked the unit where the blower was and checked the blower, it rotated fine and everything looked OK. The breaker near the blower had tripped.

I reset the breaker and then turned the unit back on. It blew hot air fine, but went two straight hours blowing without going into a defrost cycle and started smelling of burning plastic again and then quit blowing. I have checked the unit again and removed the sheet metal panel that surrounds the breaker. There are two black "capacitors?" and wires that are melted and exposed.

I know I need to replace them, but I am unsure of how to determine what I need to order. Also, is the melted pieces the source of the problem or a symptom?

    Thanks

Depending upon outdoor conditions, a heat pump may run for hours on end without going into defrost. The melted parts are likely symptoms rather than the cause. Are you sure they are capacitors? Most capacitors have metal cases, not all, but most. Were these parts indoors or out? Without heat strips, it is highly unusual for an air handler to have a breaker.

Here is some pictures of what I have. My heat pump has never run more than 45 minutes without switching to defrost. Initially it ran 15 minutes before defrost. The house never warmed. The installer came back and changed the setting, but it still never ran more than 45 minutes straight.Attachment 45389Attachment 45390Attachment 45391

45390 is a rectifier, converts AC to DC. They get hot when running.

Ok, so what is the part I have that has burned out and what could have caused it?
