1999 Honda Accord EX V6 Intermittently Stalling
Our Accord is randomly stalling at idle and while driving. It will stall on highway losing all dash lights, power etc, then come back on without being restarted. This started as a very intermittent problem and has recently become an issue every time it is driven. The recalled ignition has been replaced, I just replaced the main relay and Ignition Control Module. Does anyone know what else could be causing this problem?

Did you apply silicone heat transfer compound to the back of the new ICM? Did you replace the coil?

Replacing the ignition switch, main relay, ICM, and coil should solve most intermittent stalling problems. If the problem persists, have the alternator tested. Ensure you have a relatively new genuine Honda distributor housing--all other brands are suspect. Honda distributors tend to last 50,000 to 100,000 miles. The internal sensors do fail. Finally, check/replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor.

Yes, following the advice you left on another post, I did use the silicone compound. I am getting ready to install the new coil. The distributor housing was replaced a few years ago with a honda replacement part. I am wondering about the alternator, it is about 2 years old and is not a genuine honda. I replaced the main relay yesterday, however the problem is definitely worse since then. Possibly a bad replacement part?

Did you ever find the solution? I recently purchased a "99 accord v6. (Kickin Myself now) it stalled out a few times over the last few months but would re-engage on its own. Now it dies and takes up to 20 minutes to restart. Of course when I took it to my mechanic it wouldn't die. I don't want to randomly replace parts that don't need to be replaced. Iv'e heard about coil packs, ignition switches, main relays, fuel pump relays all the way to gas caps... any advise? Other than driving it off a cliff?

    Thanks,
    Michael
