Should I go into labor and delivery?
I am 38 weeks pregnant and have had some swelling in my face and hands. I have had nausea for about three weeks and have headaches that have gotten worse over the past few days. Blurry vision has been present for awhile now and has gotten worse than it has been. Even with my glasses I have to be very close to things to read them clearly. I have noticed I gained 4 pounds within a weeks time exactly. Should I go into labor and delivery or wait for my appointment on Wednesday?

Don't you think that should be an OB/GYN decision?

They say it's normal but I don't exactly trust them when it comes to the health of my pregnancy seeming we found out late and I have had all these symptoms and have Congenital Heart murmurs. They just repeat themselves and wondered if I could get answers from others that may have gone through this. I'm only 17 and both my mother and I don't know what to do and the doctors I see just observe for four hours and then send me home without any explanation as to why I feel like this.

My first answer stands. You are not just going to go to a hospital and tell them "I'm here to deliver my baby ".

No. This is not normal. It your symptoms are all related to preeclampsia. If you have not, go straight to labor and delivery now.

As a labor and delivery nurse, I can tell you that you are having symptoms of PIH Pregnancy Induced Hypertension. However, we don't know what your blood pressure is. PIH can lead to pre-eclampsia which can be life threatening. The symptoms include facial edema (swelling), upper extremity edema (hands, arms, etc.), headaches, blurred vision, spots before your eyes.

When I have a patient who calls me with these symptoms, I ask them to come in to the hospital to be monitored. Your blood pressure will be taken, your urine will be tested for protein, and your blood will be tested for kidney function. Many times immediate delivery is a required intervention to prevent seizures.
