    OPT-H1 tax return
I came to the US in Mar 2002 with F-1 visa. My OPT expired on Aug 14 2006, and I switched to H-visa on Oct 1 2006. I'm single.

    1) Is there any way I can use Form 1040EZ for 2006 tax return?
    2) If I have to use 1040NR-EZ,
    a) Do I have to file Form 8843 as well?
    b) I'm from Japan, so the tax treaty for exemption of $2000 is still available, isn't it?

    Thank you in advance!

1 & 2) No, you can use either Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, or file diual status.

    a) Yes.

    b) Yes, as you are grand-fathered under the OLD tax treaty.
