I have a leak in the pan gasket and transaxle gasket on a 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager se 3.3 with 3 three speed automatic transmission. I jacked it up and it appears the transaxle cover could be removed if the carriage below it is taken off. The cover has 10 screws and it appears there is about 2 or 3 inches of clearance between the cover and any obstruction to remove it. However the cover has an impression which comes out about maybe 2".

Can the transaxle cover gasket be replaced with out having to remove the transmission from the vehicle? Do I need to replace the filter and fluid at the same time?

Use this opportunity to drop and clean the pan and magnet, replace the filter, install a new gasket, and refill with ATF+4. Afterwards, run the gear selector through each PRNDL position for several seconds. Make the final fluid adjustment when the engine is at normal operating temperature and in Park. I doubt you need to remove the ATX, in order to do any of this.

The gasket is leaking by transaxle cover . I thought perhaps I could drop the carriage and remove the 10 bolts holding the cover and replace the gasket which is leaking. I'm not sure if I can clear the cover down to change gasket because of the space between the cover and the clearance space to remove it.
