    Fill noise
My toilet flushes adequately and the water fills the tank as it should. However, several times after the completion of this process fill noises can be heard for short periods repeatedly. This goes on until the next flush and the process repeats. Any ideas?

Turn the water off at the stop valve and look in the tank 1 hour later. What is the water level?

One problem could be that the water level is to high. Water should be at lest 1/2'' below top of fill tube. To set this height you adjust the height of float.

Another problem would be that the flapper is leaking. This you would find out by following Brian's instructions in post #2. If bad replace.

A food coloring DYE TEST is probably a better way to test for a flapper leak. Here, when the average person shuts off the water supply to the toilet, the shut off valve leaks at the packing nut and unless the person messing with the shutoff valve is experienced a little in plumbing, touching the shutoff valve could end up leading to an emergency call to a plumber (ugh). I know as I get a lot of calls like this... ;)

To perform the dye test simply drip 10-15 drops of a dark food coloring into the toilet TANK only. If color shows up in the toilet bowl over the next 1/2 hour or so then the flapper needs to be replaced.

Open the lid and checked the water level after the filter shuts off. Is should be one half inch under the white overflow tube. Now check the flapper linkage. It should have 1/4 inch of play in the chain. Run your fingers around the flat side of the flapper. Do you feel wavy spots? If so, replace the flapper. Let me know how you make out, good luck, Tom
