How to repair extremely loud, squeaky Admiral dryer?
My dryer began squeaking couple of months ago off and on while drying. It is not making a much louder more intense squeaking sound. The heat works and the drum still spins, but it makes an extremely loud noise while doing so. I can't tell exactly where the squeaking is coming from, but it may be something on the left or back. It is hard to tell now that it is so loud. Is this something that is relatively easy to troubleshoot and fix?

Two possibilities... either way will require you to get into the back of the drum. Some models have a knob shaft in the center of the drum on the back that rides in a plastic or bronze bearing. When this wears out, the drum will squeak. There is also normally one or two rubber-tired plastic idler wheels located below the midline on the back that the drum rotates on. Typically, the center of these will wear out. I would expect more of a "thud" if this were the problem. If I had to bet on one, it would be the first example I mentioned because I had the same problem with a dryer I had.

You will have to tear it down and find the problem, which could be a drum bearing. No dryer is hard to fix. They are simple as long as you thoroughly clean it, change the belt, and grease all bearings and replace the ones that are bad. Don't miss any dirt packed in something like the blower or an air duct, either.

Furnace Extremely Loud When AC is On [ 3 Answers ]

About 2 months ago we turned our AC on for the first time this year. We noticed that after about 15-30 minutes, the furnace/central air unit makes a very loud, low pitched humming noise that does not stop until we turn off the AC. This doesn't happen when we have the Heat on, and it didn't happen...
